PENFIELD PARK MODEL BOAT SECTION

The first thing that visitors observe as they enter the grounds at Penfield is the large picturesque model boat pond.
Here they can see remote controlled model boats of all types being put through there paces. Anything from scale models of tug boats, yachts, speed boats and maybe a patrol boat or a submarine can take their attention.
The model boat section of the club is dedicated to the building and running of a wide variety of anything maritime. The clubs in-ground pond has a plastic liner and to conserve water usage, bore water is used to keep the pond full. Members have built a podium overlooking the pond, that gives them a good view while controlling their models. One of the main attractions on the pond is the racing of whipper snipper powered speed boats that can reach speeds of 60kph.
They compete for points on a monthly basis with the winners being presented with trophies at the end of the season.
The members are a friendly and dedicated group who are willing to help new members.
